Honor the rich tapestry of Hispanic and Latine culture and identity in poetry. The winner of the contest will receive $100! An honorable mention of $50 will also be awarded!

Express yourself in English, Spanish, or a blend of both languages as you delve into themes of Hispanic and Latine culture, identity, history, and community. All types of poetry are welcome. 

COMPETITION RULES:  

· The contest begins on Sunday, September 15, 2024 and ends on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

· Competitors must be in high school and be residents of Prince William County or the City of Manassas.

· Competitors may only submit one entry. 

· Multilingual poetry is welcome!  Please provide English translations for the judges.

· Entries will be judged on:

          Relevance to the theme of Hispanic and Latine Culture and Identity, 

          Creativity,

          Emotional Impact, and

          Technique which includes structure and grammar. 


·Entries must be submitted by email to libyouthservicesmc@pwcgov.org or by clicking on the Submit button on the online form at pwcva.gov/department/library/young-adults. 
  
·Winners will be announced on Friday, November 1, 2024. 

This program is presented as part of Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home, a major public humanities initiative taking place across the nation in 2024 and 2025, directed by Library of America and funded with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

About the library

Manassas City Library is the 12th and newest library. It opened on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. This new location helps bring library services closer to the Manassas City community. Within its 6,000 square feet, the new branch provides 12 public access computers, programming for all ages, study rooms, and houses about 15,000 books and other resources. Manassas City Library is conveniently located in the Wellington Station Shopping Center, close to groceries, banks, restaurants, and more.
