Unleash your creativity and design an original comic featuring your unique characters and storylines for a chance to win an awesome prize! This program is part of Lit Con.

Unleash your creativity and design an original comic featuring your unique characters and storylines for a chance to win an awesome prize and have your work showcased in the library! Be sure to read the submission guidelines before submitting your comic.

Submission guidelines:

1. The contest is open to all students in grades K-5, regardless of experience or skill level. No previous comic creation experience is required. The goal is to encourage fun, creativity, and expression.

2. The theme of this contest is “Adventure and Imagination.” Your comic can be about any type of adventure—whether it's a superhero story, a journey through outer space, or a fun day at the zoo! Be creative and let your imagination run wild.

3. Please refrain from submitting content that contains excessive violence or is considered inappropriate for a general audience. Such submissions will be disqualified.

4. Students may submit either hand-drawn or digital comics. The comic should be a minimum of 1 page and no more than 3 pages long. Pages can be created on standard letter-sized paper (8.5” x 11”) or in a digital format (JPEG, PNG, or PDF).

5. Use any art materials you like, such as pencils, markers, crayons, colored pencils, or digital art tools. There are no limits to your creativity!

6. Comics can be submitted either in-person at the Manassas City Library or via email as a JPEG, PNG, or PDF to LibYouthServicesMC@pwcgov.org. Be sure to include the child's first and last name, the parent or guardian's first and last name, an email address, and phone number with the submission.

7. Comics may be submitted from April 21 to May 3. All submissions must be received by May 3. Late entries will not be considered, so please submit on time.

8. The winner will be announced no later than May 18. They will receive the grand prize, and have their work displayed in the library and on PWPL's social media.

9. Every participant will receive a certificate and a small prize for their participation.

10. Parents and guardians can help students with brainstorming ideas or reading over their work, but we encourage children to create their comics independently to ensure their voices are heard.

11. Questions? Please email Clea Overstreet at Coverstreet@pwcgov.org or call the Manassas City Library at 703-792-8820.

Join us from April 21–May 3 for Lit Con as we celebrate all things comics, graphic novels, manga, and more through programs, resources, and information.
