Welcome to the first joint venture for hands on quilting at the Chinn Bee!
Cabin Branch Quilters and Chinn Park Library are offering in-seat quilting lessons to anyone in the Prince William community who wants to learn the Art of Quilting. Individuals must have general knowledge of sewing, and be at least 12 years of age (with parent accompaniment). If you have a sewing machine at home, please bring it along with the instructional manual so we can help you get comfortable using your own machine. If the project is not completed at the library, you can take it home to finish it. Cabin Branch will provide fabric, tools, and instructions to complete a small project. The project will teach you the basic steps of quilting, start to finish. You will also learn quilting lingo and the how-to of quilting-specific tools and rulers.
Registration is only required for those who do not have a sewing machine. This is so we can keep track of how many sewing machines to bring. The quilting projects can be tailored to the level of skill and the allotted time. Representatives of Cabin Branch Quilters can work with participants to create a project for them. After experiencing some of these introductory projects, please speak with Joanne Hawk or another member of Cabin Branch Quilters about what you will need to develop your own projects.
Other quilters are welcome to bring their own projects during the scheduled quilting times.
Chinn Park Library features a 24-hour book drop, 125-seat Community Room, a Quiet Study Room, two individual study rooms, a group study room with a smart TV, a Children and Young Adult area, and 24 public access computers.
The Management and Government Information Center (MAGIC) is a specialized collection of local, state and federal government information. MAGIC has the same hours of operation as Chinn Park. MAGIC staff are available to assist with local, state and federal government information as well as with its print and digital resources.
