Ramadan
Summary:
Ramadan is a sacred, holy month for Muslims all around the world. In the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and pray to become closer to Allah. It has been celebrated for 14 centuries as the month in which Muhammad first received revelations of the Quran. During Ramadan, Muslims eat a meal known as suhoor before the fajr prayer. From that time until sunset, they do not eat any food or drink water. At sunset, they typically break their fast with dates and eat a meal known as iftar. Mosques host large iftars for communities and the poor. During Ramadan, Muslims are to refrain from physical pleasures and listening to music. The end of this holy month is celebrated over a course of three days called Eid al-Fitr.
