Welcome the season with wellness. Each month Kris makes a spa product for face or body, using a recipe found in a print or digital PWPL resource. Perfect for gifting yourself or others.

When I was looking for more DIY spa gift ideas to use in gift baskets for the holidays, PWPL’s digital library came to the rescue. I downloaded Masks & Scrubs: Natural Beauty Recipes for Ultimate Self-Care by Shiva Rose, to my tablet from @hoopladigital. It fit the bill perfectly. A body scrub for exfoliating will pair wonderfully with last month’s nourishing body oil.

Revitalizing Body Scrub

1 cup organic cane sugar

¼ cup fractionated coconut oil

¼ cup sunflower or almond oil

15 drops vanilla essential oil

Combine all ingredients. Mix until moist. Store in a lidded mason jar and shake well to mix before use. Apply to damp skin, gently massaging in a circular motion, concentrating on rough spots like elbows and knees.

NOTE: This recipe has oil in it and care should be used to avoid slipping and falling in the shower or dropping and shattering the glass jar.

If you don’t have the fractionated coconut oil, you can substitute an oil of your choice. I added some vegetable glycine for extra moisturizing. Also, I opted to go for an uplifting citrus blend, but you could make it more seasonal by using peppermint, cinnamon or even lavender.

If you choose to give this as a gift, increase the amounts, add your own label, and decorate as you choose. You could include a little note with some “add-in” ideas found in the book such as honey or mashed banana. It would be nice as part of a gift basket with last month’s nourishing body oil and items such as a cozy robe, face masks, a diffuser, and some essential oils.
